FAQ

Still unsure about doing a Bungy? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions to put your mind at ease.

  • Are there any restrictions?

Yes - to jump at Gravity Canyon you must be at least 10 years old and weigh a minimum of 45 kg. If you are under 16 years you also require parental consent. Our maximum weight (for either a solo or tandem jump) is 175kg.

There are some medical conditions that may stop you from bungy jumping. If you are concerned, please give us a call, or consult your doctor.

  • What is a bungy cord made of?

Our bungy cords are made of 100% latex rubber - the same type that is used to hold up your underwear! Bungy cords are made to a certain length according to the height of each individual bungy, and each cord has a specific number of strands to accomodate the weight limits set to them.

  • Can all your activities operate at the same time?

Yes they can!! Our activities have all been strategically placed along the width of the 80m canyon. It may look like an inevitable collision from the viewing platform, but riders will speed past each other, just close enough to see the terrified expressions on each other's face!

  • Has anyone been seriously hurt?

No. Gravity Canyon maintains an excellent safety record and is proud to adhere to all safety standards. In addition to your custom built ankle harness, you are wearing a safety harness also attaching you to the bungy cord. Our staff have been extensively trained, and know exactly how to take care of you!

  • How long has the bungy been operating?

The bungy opened on the 16th of December 1997, under the name "HighTime Bungy" - at this stage it was the highest jump in New Zealand! During the summer of 2003, the name was changed to "Mokai Gravity Canyon", but the service and excellent safety record haven't changed since day one!

  • Where does Bungy jumping come from?

For centuries the people of Vanuatu in the Pacific have been leaping from tall towers with vine ropes attached to their ankles. From the ancient ritual, bungy jumping with latex rubber began at the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club in the 1970's. Commercial bungy jumping followed in the 1980's developed by a group of "Kiwis" and so the bungy phenomenon was born.

  • How do I get back from the bungy?

Our bungy is unique in that there is no walking involved! Once you have completed your 80m jump, the trained crew will load you into our custom built chairlift - you then get to experience the awesome height in reverse as you are lifted back to the bridge!

  • How much does it cost?

The cost of a bungy jump is NZD $179 per person. Please go to our Book Now or Shop page for details of product pricing.

  • What if I decide not to jump?

If you have purchased your jump ticket and decide not to jump, it is unfortunately not refundable nor transferable.

Our experienced jump crew have seen and heard it all, and are very good at persuading people into doing things they don't think they can! Don't be afraid to ask for help if you think you need it!
